Organisers of the event: The Oriental Faculty of the State Academic University for the Humanities (GAUGN) in collaboration with the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IV RAS)


Youth academic readings on Oriental studies, organized by the Voronezh Faculty of the State University of Humanities and the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, is a scientific and educational project within the framework of which young scientists from various higher educational institutions of Russia will be able to discuss a wide range of topical theoretical and applied issues in the study of history, culture, economics and politics of Asian countries and Africa, as well as share developments and reflections in the field of theory and methodology of oriental studies.


Within the framework of the conference, it is planned to hold a number of thematic sections and round tables, full participants of which can be 2nd-4th year undergraduate and graduate students studying at Russian and foreign universities in the areas of training “Oriental and African Studies”, “History”, “Cultural Studies”, “ International Relations", "Political Science", "Law", "Regional Studies", "Philology", "Philosophy" and "Economics", as well as graduate students and young scientists under the age of 39.


The moderators and discussants of the sessional meetings and round tables are teachers of the Faculty of Oriental Studies and researchers of the relevant structural divisions of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.


The conference will be held in the format of four sections :

  • Near Eastern Studies (Near and Middle East)

  • Far Eastern studies (East, Southeast and South Asia)

  • African studies (North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa)

  • Eurasian studies (Central Asia and the Caucasus)


Main directions of the conference:

  • Historical research

  • Cultural studies

  • Social and economic research

  • Political studies: domestic and foreign policy, international relations

  • Historiography and source study


Young scientists in the status of active teachers and researchers under the age of 39 are invited to take part in the round table "Historical policy and historical memory in the countries of Asia and Africa".


To participate in the conference, you must fill out an electronic form indicating the name of the speaker, place of study/work (university, faculty, field of study, course/year of study), format of participation, topic and brief abstract of the report (up to 300 words).


The form must be completed by April 14, 2024.


The organizing committee reserves the right to reject an application due to the inconsistency of the report with the stated format of the conference. When selecting reports, the clarity of the formulation of the topic (problematic, not purely descriptive) and the quality of the abstracts will be of key importance. When writing abstracts, special attention should be paid to stating the research problem, describing the groundwork and specific research results obtained.


The Organizing Committee welcomes full-time and part-time participation ; formats for absentee participation are not provided. Some of the meetings will be held in person in the buildings of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Rozhdestvenka St., 12), and some (for participants from other countries and cities) will be held online. The organizing committee considers the key value of the Conference to be the opportunity for free, fruitful discussion, which is possible only in face-to-face and part-time (online) formats.


Following the results of the conference, the conference materials are planned to be published in an electronic collection, which will be posted in the RSCI system.

There are no registration fees for participation in the conference; participation in the conference is free. Reimbursement of transportation, organizational and other types of expenses is carried out by participants at their own expense or at the expense of the sending organization.


At the end of the conference, all participants will be issued personalized certificates confirming the fact of participation in a specific meeting and the conference as a whole, indicating the topic of the presented report. The document is certified by the signatures of the chairman of the organizing committee and the moderator of the section in which the report was presented, as well as the official seal.


These certificates can be used to fill out the portfolio of participants, incl. for admission to master's and postgraduate courses at GAUGN and Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
