"Model UN in Crimea" is an exciting role–playing scientific and practical conference in which participants reproduce the work of the United Nations. Its participants – delegates, observers, chairmen and experts – act as official representatives of UN member states and international organizations who came to the conference to discuss the agenda.

In the Model, delegates do not express a personal point of view, but the official position of the country they represent. The purpose of each committee is to adopt a resolution on the issue on the agenda.

Model UN Today

The UN, the most authoritative universal international organization, celebrated its 75th anniversary in October 2020. Currently, the UN is working on all the most important areas of interstate cooperation. Special attention is paid to the issues of ensuring international peace and security.

At the initiative of the UN, expressed shortly after its creation, events to reproduce the work of UN bodies, known as the "Model UN", began to take place around the world (in more than 100 states). This format of scientific and practical conferences has earned high praise in the UN.

Scientific research in the field of modeling the activities of international organizations is one of the areas of study of the modern science of international law.

Key objectives of the "Model UN":

-training participants in decision-making procedures and rules;

-formation of participants' understanding of the rules of behavior, responsibility for the work of their team;

-development of professional leadership skills, negotiation skills and group work.

Participants of the "Model UN in Crimea" can be high school students (grade 9-11 "Model UN in Crimea" Junior), university students, graduate students and young scientists. It is recommended that young scientists participate as the chairman of the UN body (committee), an expert.

As a general rule, the form of participation is full—time. Under special circumstances, delegates are allowed to participate in the conference in the form of video conferencing or in absentia.

The procedure for holding a conference in the form of videoconferencing and in absentia is defined in the Appendix.

To participate in the "Model UN in Crimea", it is necessary to fill out an application form, justifying the choice of a UN body and stating the delegate's point of view on the issue on the body's agenda (locus standi), and send it to the email address — modeluncrimea@gmail.com.

Each participant can submit only one application. It is allowed to submit one application from two participants. Each application will be reviewed by the Organizing Committee.

Selection to UN bodies (committees) is based on the results of the evaluation of applications. Based on the results of the evaluation of applications sent by the participants, the Organizing Committee may make one of the following decisions:

  • on registration of a participant as a delegate;

  • about sending a participant to represent the country's position in another committee;

  • about the rejection of the participant's application.

After registration as a participant, a representative of the Organizing Committee contacts the delegate and determines the country that the participant will represent, sends a draft Resolution of the body.

The participant prepares a written draft of the country's Position within the time limit set by the Organizing Committee and sends it to the "Model UN in Crimea" email address. The participant may, within the time limit set by the Organizing Committee, send amendments to the Resolution of the body to the e-mail address of the "Model UN in Crimea".

Students under the age of 18 are not allowed to participate in the "Model UN in Crimea" without accompanying persons. Ensuring the safety of underage participants, especially outside the venues of the UN Model in Crimea, is the responsibility of accompanying persons.

Recommendations for filling out the application:

When filling out the application form, participants are advised to pay attention to the points in which it is necessary to justify the choice of a UN body (committee) and reflect the delegate's point of view on the issue on the body's agenda (locus standi).

The rationale for choosing a UN body (committee) is a statement of information about the selected body (structure, purpose, tasks, role), reflecting the delegate's understanding of the work of the selected body.

The delegate's point of view on the issue on the agenda of the body (locus standi) is a small analytical work in which the main points, historical facts, the current state of affairs, as well as the delegate's vision on the agenda of the body should be stated.

Text parameters: volume — 500-1000 characters.

Examples and guidelines for filling out the application are available on the Internet resource: https://vk.com/krfmodeloon.
