A.A. Gromyko Contest for Young CIS International Relations Specialists

The contest is organized by the A.A. Gromyko Association of Foreign Policy Studies, Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO University), the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Belarus and the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences with the support of the Standing Committee of the Union State, the Eurasian Economic Commission, as well as the CIS Interstate Humanitarian Cooperation Fund.

Students and graduates of higher education institutions, postgraduates, scientists, teachers, journalists, analysts, business specialists, representatives of community-based organizations, diplomats from the CIS Member States under the age of 40 can participate in the contest.


The contest can be participated within following nominations:

  • Main nomination – scientific articles of postgraduates, scientists, teachers, analysts and diplomats under the age of 40 as of August 1, 2023;

  • Debut nomination – scientific articles of students and graduates of higher education institutions under the age of 30 as of August 1, 2023;

  • “Essay Competition” nomination – journalistic essays of students and graduates of higher education institutions under the age of 30 as of August 1, 2023.

Besides, the jury may set additional special nominations.

Original unpublished scientific articles and analytical notes written by one or more authors (no more than 30 thousand characters) and devoted to the following research topics are accepted for the contest:

  • prospects of integration projects in the post-Soviet space: the Union State of Belarus and Russia, the EAEU, the CIS and the CSTO;

  • contours of the new world order: challenges and opportunities for Russia and the CIS Member States;

  • scientific diplomacy as a resource for shaping Greater Eurasia;

  • “all-out sanction war”: legal status, consequences and countermeasures;

  • the role and place of Central Asia and the South Caucasus in the Eurasian integration;

  • conflict risks and tools for strengthening security in the Eurasian region;

  • diplomatic legacy of A. A. Gromyko;

  • the Great Patriotic War and the Second World War: problems of preserving and distorting the historical memory.

The contest is interdisciplinary. Works covering the declared topics in the field of political science, economics, sociology, history, law and philosophy are accepted for participation.

Works in the special nomination for journalistic essays on the following topics are also accepted:

  • “A new partition of the world: a war of civilizations or a micro regional balance?”;

  • “The UN role in international relations: the last bastion of international law?”;

  • “Culture wars”: how does the struggle to reshape human identity affect world politics?

Awards:

  • articles of the contest winners in the main nomination will be published in leading scientific journals (including those on the list of the Higher Attestation Commission);

  • the works of all contest finalists will be published in collection of scientific articles;

  • at least 50 finalists will receive a grant to participate in the Finalists' Forum in Moscow in July 2023 and present their works, participate in unique master classes and a rich cultural program.

  • winners in the main nomination will receive valuable prizes – a laptop, tablet or smartphone. Winners in the debut nomination will receive a smart watch, a fitness bracelet or an external hard drive. Awards in special nominations are also provided according to the jury’s decision.

Following the debates during which the works will be defended at the Forum of Contest Finalists, the jury can award the winners with:

  • a grant for research project, publication of a monograph or participation in a conference in Russia;

  • a grant for advanced training in leading Russian universities, including MGIMO University;

  • a letter of recommendation for internship at the Eurasian Economic Commission, MGIMO University.

In order to participate in the contest, it is necessary to submit an application on the official website of the Fund via the online form containing a participant's application form and her/his contest paper on or before May 15, 2023.
