What is Rise?

Rise is a program that finds promising young people and provides them with an opportunity for life as they work for the benefit of others.


The program begins at ages 15-17 and encourages lifelong service and learning by providing support that includes need-based scholarships, mentoring, networking, access to career opportunities and the potential for additional funding as Rise Global winners work to solve humanity's most pressing problems.


The Schmidt Futures and Rhodes Trust initiative, Rise is the main program under which Eric and Wendy Schmidt have allocated $1 billion to find and support talented people from around the world.


How does Rise differ from other programs?

  1. The Rise is for life. The program begins at ages 15-17 and encourages lifelong service and learning by providing support that includes need-based scholarships, mentoring, networking, access to career opportunities and the potential for additional funding as Rise Global winners work to solve humanity's most pressing problems.

Everyone who submits an application joins the global community of leaders and gets access to the opportunities of partners around the world.


About the Application

Applying for participation in Rise is a multi-step process that gives you the opportunity to tell more about yourself. Candidates can demonstrate their potential through videos, projects and group interviews as part of their application for participation in Rise. Rise also offers alternative low-tech paths through a web browser and paper applications for applicants who do not have access to technology.


Who can apply?

Candidates for the 2024 cohort must be between 15 and 17 years old as of July 1, 2024, which means they were born from July 2, 2006 to July 1, 2009 or between.
